Hokkaido Wines owns 447ha estste and processes 2,500t of grapes annually in Hokkaido, where it has perfect environment for genuine wine winemaking.
PIWI: Abbreviated word from a German coined term “Pilzwiderstandsfähige Rebsorten”. Germen anti-fungal disease varieties were bred particularly for aiming to grow with reducing chemical sprays applied in vineyards.
Hokkaido Wine Co. had imported seedlings from Germany and started cultivating – Rondo, Regent, Acolon, Solaris.
Rondo: Urausu-town, Tsurunuma 鶴沼浦臼町 77%
Regent: Yoichi-town 8%
Acolon: Yoichi-town 8%
Zweigelt: Yoichi-town 7%
Colour shows clear & brilliant garnet meanwhile touch of nose – fresh berry & dark-ripen fruit is presented. Smooth and silky texture to palate with fresh acidity & moderate tannin yet, quite zesty astringency stimulates mouthfeel.
