[Overview]Yamanashi prefecture, the centre of Koshu – 甲州 production in Japan is the place where the modern winemaking history was begun by two young men born in this prefecture, who embarked on their journey to France for their training to improve viticulture and winemaking techniques in the late 1800’s. In these days, Yamanashi is the biggest region for both of wine production and wine grape growing by volume. The wine production is undertaken in several cities in the prefecture, where ranging elevations between 400 – 600 metre surrounded by the mountains. The landscape of overall region forms alluvial, varies the elevations from slope down to flat. The slopes make the soil well-drained in the vineyards that are positioned facing south, south-east, north-east and north. These variances in elevation and direction of vine positioning create wide range of expression in aroma, wine style and its taste.
[Climate]A past study identified the climate of Yamanashi can be equivalent to Region IV in refer to Winkler Index (1944)
